AAC@school for social inclusion

The AAC project focuses on supporting the inclusion of disadvantaged learners in school educational paths through a specific methodology, not yet well spread in the European and national school contexts, – augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) is a term to describe various of communication methods used to supplement or replace speech or writing for those with impairments in the production or comprehension of spoken or written language. It includes a spectrum of tools: from the simpler systems such as pictures, gestures and pointing to the more complex techniques involving powerful computer technology. It has been proven that AAC plays an important role not just with people with disabilities or with communication issues but can also contribute to answer to the communication difficulties and special needs of marginalized and vulnerable groups of society, including migrants, refugees, minorities, nomadic people and underprivileged people. We will explore the potential of AAC in the context of the refugee crisis by testing this methodology in schools and educational environments that host migrants and refugees Besides that, the project aims to strengthen the skills of teachers, especially for those working closely with individuals with communication difficulties, and support them in dealing with diversity in the classrooms by adopting innovative practices. AAC@school for social inclusion project is funded under Erasmus+ Programme KA2: Strategic Partnerships for school education. The coordinator of the project is Cooperativa Sociale Il Cerchio from Italy and the other partners are ISTITUTO COMPRENSIVO SAN BIAGIO – Italy; Active Citizens Partnership – Greece; VINCO –Austria; AEDEIT – Italy; Emlakbank Süleyman Demirel Anadolu Lisesi – Turkey; EUNI PARTNERS – Bulgaria; Solski center Velenje – Slovenia; UPV/EHU, Spain Associated partners: SUPSI – University of Applied Science of Southern Switzerland
